The Brentwood LRT Station

Our Architecture encompasses and reflects all of the dynamics, personalities and energies of everyone involved in the project's evolution and realization. The Brentwood LRT provides for that spirit of place and the activities that take place within it, and for that needed community focal point and identification. It gives human attributes to the built environment.

A Building with Life:

Mind: (spirit of the client) - The architects designed a facility that engaged the community and encouraged the spirit of togetherness. By creating a focal point and a common interest of pride for Calgary, the LeBlond Partnership strengthened the community's 'spirit of place' and of sense belonging.

Breath: (initial concept) - Brentwood, being a suburb of Calgary at the time, an icon of prairie architecture that every one related to, emerged. The prairie grain elevator usually related to towns and railways, became the parody for the community.

Body: (building perception and components) - The LeBlond Partnership created a public environment of glass and sunshine that would provide the visibility, security and safety that everyone desires to have in public facilities.

Heart: (space) - The Brentwood LRT station provides for a feeling of arrival and of place in the sunshine. The focal point is the clock tower of glass shimmering above the freeway, reminiscent of community churches or public elements. The cathedral-like glass envelope with paired communal type columns holding torchiere lamps, celebrate the pedestrians as they do their daily commute.

Soul: (LeBlond's philosophy) - The Brentwood LRT station is more than just a building; it captures the spirit of Brentwood and of Calgary. This building is alive with personality and it respects patrons by attending to their safety and comfort.
